The Truth Behind Live Chat

Submitted by: Alan Jones

Among the benefits of writing a blog is a degree of freedom to write what comes to mind. Back a few years ago this was sometimes referred to as put my two cents in. Not anymore; in today s changing economic climate anybody s two cents would be worth very little. This is an interesting phrase, this my two cents. Even when coined in the Christian Bible it was considered a paupers sum.

I went to my editor with the idea for this blog and his first response was If that s all you ve got, don t even bother. Two cents of opinion is not even worth the effort. I decided to go with my instincts anyway. As I ve mentioned before words and phrases are a passion of mine. Their origin s, history, and current use tell a lot about a person and their culture.

This one, two cents is also known as an idiom, not to be taken literally but more as an example or metaphor. Its usage has always been in terms of being of lesser value and most often refers to opinion or intention. Similar in connotation to the term not worth a plug nickel, Now a day s its extremely useful when referring to the world of politicians or the off the wall schemes and plans cooked up by some folks.

Speaking of schemes and plans just recently one such notion surfaced in the world of the internet. It s being called live chat. The thinking behind this outrageous idea is that people, consumers, really care about receiving customer service.

The purveyors of live chat offer this service as the latest and greatest in customer service applications. It personalizes the consumer experience, results in increased sales, and presents a more positive image to those using it. Like any other application on the market live chat may well be all it is touted as being, but as with any idea its benefits are directly tied to how it is used.

For some live chat may only be worth two cents. For others its value will be worth far more. The difference lies in how live chat is applied. The two centers will be those businesses that only give voice to providing quality customer service. The business that commits itself in policy and practice to assuring quality customer care, live chat will have great value.

The lesson here is quite simple; carefully choose the what and why anything may only be worth two cents to you.

I would be remiss if I didn’t spend just a moment or two reflecting on live chat. As you already know, and. I hope have experienced, live chat is the single source of revolutionizing online customer service. Until live chat was introduced customer service was primarily an awkward process using the telephone or email. Getting a response from a business was sometimes iffy. Emails got lost or calls not answered was all-too-often. While there are still many companies that haven’t got on board with live chat, there number is diminishing.
